Intake Stuck

I have a 1978 F-250. It has an Edelbrock performer intake manifold. I am trying to remove this manifold and it won't budge. It seams it has "attached" itself to the four corner studs. No amount of 'polite' tapping and prying has shown any progress. Various types of penetrating fluids have been applied over serveral hours, still no movement.

Does anyone have any hints to the removal of a stuck aluminum intake?

Two things I am considering:

1. Weld nuts to the corner studs and try to remove them.

2. "tap" on the manifold with a precision 4 lb. hammer and take it out in pieces. (negative side is ordering a new manifold!)

The engine is in the truck, I have no access to a hoist or lift...

Any ideas?

Since it seems to have welded itself to the heads in one form or another, my patience would be at an end. Try welding nuts on the end studs. If you do get it off without surgery, I'd still have the port surfaces clean-up milled (cheap) to ensure alignment.

What was used to seal the end seals? Als, you dont have to weld nuts on. If there's enough room, double nut. The studs shouldn't be that tight.

Thanks for the ideas. I tried the welding of a nut. Successfully twisted the stud off. Then decided, new manifold = $200. How many hours is this going to take? I took my 4lb hammer and a 1" chisel and between the block started to smack the crap out of it. I figured something was going to give --

I got the manifold off!!!!!!!!!!! In one piece!!!!!!

It appears that the studs and the manifold had corroded together.

Thanks again for the replies

just as a general rule...always apply anti sieze to any steel or iron that goes into or through aluminum. i know its too late for that now, but on the next intake use anti sieze. it should help situations like this. aluminum doesn't play well with other metals. just my $.02
