if you leave the old shocks on their and add new ones the news ones will have to work harder to dampen what the old ones cause. if the shocks under your truck now are decent then i say try it.

I thought he had decided to just replace his old shocks with a single set of new ones...? Like you said its not good to mismatch shocks.
Dual shocks are only needed when they are A) dampening a crap load of weight under B) severe conditions, i.e. hard hits. This is why I have them on my red one.
I've seen too many guys throw stiff dual shocks on either side on a mild street rig which results in an ultra hard ride...rather than soaking up the bumps like a shock is supposed to do they simply jar the truck, are hard on all your other components, and can cause lack of control.

I have two stock shocks that are in good condition on my front. I'm going to add the two rancho rs7000's so I have quad front shocks. 2+2=4. Does that help? I just wanted to know if it is a good idea because I do a good amount of off-roading and take some hard landings. I do however drive it as my daily driver. I don't expect it to ride all that smooth anyway considering it is a 79 beast. I was just wondering what everyone else would do and if they think Rancho Rs7000's are good?

Yes, as stated, mismatched duals are a bad idea. Since you asked what we would do...
Single new ranchos...prob the 9x series so you can dial it up or down depending on what you are doing.
