Transfer case shift linkage
I have a 1991 f 150HD with the 351 and an auto tranny. My problem the truck goes into 4 high with no problem but will not go into 4 lo. Also the 4x4 light stays on even when it is not in 4 wheel drive. Any suggestions the shiftllever just stops and won't go back any further.

does your transfer case go into N?
If not then your linkage is froze up (rusted) or you have some obruction down there.
I had the same problem with my 88 F-150. my linkage was rusted so it wouldn't go into N or 4L. No matter what I did, I was able to break it loose. I ended up bying all new linkage from the Ford Dealer (costly) and replaced it. I still have the part number needed & think it will work on your 91. Ford had a hell of a time looking up the part, that is why I kept the P/N just in case I needed it.
