Mirror Swap.

Is it possible....to swap standard power mirrors on a S/D to the extendable trailer tow mirrors. Is it a direct bolt on, wires and all, or is it completely different? I know they are pricey, but I know somebody that asked me the question after seeing mine, and I really don't know. But I did know where to get the answer...at FTE
Anybody ever done this?

Yes it can be done. Although the earlier years 99-01 have a different plug than the subsequent year. An adapter can be had or you can just solder the wires.

Search the threads. Pictures are posted.

Thanks Monsta! I knew it could be done, just was not sure of the mounting. The wiring should be easy....even if the plugs don't match, or they may be replaced with later model plugs. Well as long as the mirrors will swap, the power should be the easy part. Thanks!

I think they around $260 a set, cheaper than the dealer, but you may find them on Evilbay cheaper

I'll check it out. I have a buddy that works for a Ford parts distributor...actually it is a Lincoln/Mercury dealership that sells tons of wholesale Ford parts. He usually hooks me up with dealer cost, so I can usually get things pretty reasonable. Just want to look around to see if there is something diferent or better.

Thanks, CB, I'll call him with that part# and get his price.

Got the mirrors...that is the Ford part number. My cost on the kit was $265.00. The kit does come with the wiring adapter so it is real easy to mount them on a '99.

Good glad I could be of assistance. I usually email that guy and get his price. I then call some local dealers and try to get them to beat the price and they usually do.

Been dealing with my guy at Lincoln/Mercury for years. I assume he is giving me good pricing. I used to check him in the past, but he's a friend, so I assume he is giving me the best price.....or at least the best the chief's will let him. However, he will even deliver to my shop so I don't have to run around gathering parts, so I guess this counts for something.
