The other night i went into town to cruise aroud. One of my buddies wanted to drive my PSD, and he went about 4 miles, beat the crap out of it. He used a 1/8 tank according to the gauge. Now it uses excessive fuel. Before i would get 16, not about 11. Would power service injector cleaner clear this up, or is it something major? Smoke never comes out of anything like that, has just as much power, but just poor fuel milage now. Any ideas?
I agree there do not let the idot anywhere near it again.
How are you judging your fuel milage? If it is off the computer he may have had his foot dow all the time and the average on the computer may be way off as to how you drive. Reset it and let it get used to you again and your milage my come back. If it is a case of the truck is that way all the time I do not know, mine is about 16.5 around town and averages abourt 17.4 over time with some open road and lots of town driving.:
WOw, you guys get that good of mileage? around town I have been keeping my average, and I'm getting right around 13 if i'm in town, or pulling my big ole boat on the highway. Any ideas on why I"m getting crappy mileage? I thought I would get better. I'm taking it down to Houston for x-mas, so it will be interesting to see what it gets on the highway with no trailer. Thanks guys.
I too get pretty bad mileage. I only get 13 at the best. I have had my 2000 PSD about 4months now. I would like to get some what better. I not asking for miracles. Any ideas?
did the powerserice get you better milage or just clear your truck up & make it run better? my 2000 PSD don't get the best milage depends on how heavy my right foot gets, if i keep it around 65 mph it will get around 16 to 17 any faster it drops to around 13 to 14, i have the k&n filter & the superchip programmer it has alot more getty up go but the fuel milage stayed about the same even on the economy setting.
I get both, it will start easier, better fuel milage, plus more power, and so far i have not had any problems with the fuel system, so i do not think it hurts anything.
i dont know how you are all guaging your mileage. Up until recently purchasing my 1st diesel. b4 I would let my tank fill by shutting off, then hit it one more time until shut off again. I would call that full. Now learning more and more as I go, I have learned that diesel fuel really foams up, and it depends on how fast any given pump flows, the amount of foam you will get. I have now let it shut off like normal, twice, and found that filling it slowly, I can fit like 5 more gallons in there. basically what im getting at is you may never have an accurate reading, unless you actually fill the tank all the way until you can see the fuel(not foam) in the filler neck. I dont think it is recommended doing that, but how else do you get any more accurate? thanks for letting me rant, any suggestions, that are fool proof?
Being in Iowa, how are you running your truck for winter? I know I lost mileage in winter to begin, but especially when I put the sandbags in the back, and ran in 4 wheel. I had 16.5 when brand new in june of 98 with my 99, but it dropped to about 12.5 at one point, even in warm weather. It got back up to 16 last summer, why? I don't know. But now I'm up again due to my super tuner chip.
