Who cares? xmas, Christmas, whatever. The fact of the matter is is that history is recorded indicating the life of a man who lived some 2000 + years ago, 2004 to be exact. This man spread the word to Love one another, and keep peace in the world. Imagine that. Men have misinterpreted this word and tried to expand on it till, many times, people were hurt ie. burned at the stake etc. yada yada yada. All that aside, this man Jesus Christ DID leave this world with the principles that we built this country on. Laws etc included. I am a Christian man and am going to celibrate the birth of this man Jesus Christ. I will call this day Christmas as it is the celebration of the life of Christ at least. If you do not believe as I, that's fine. If you do appreciate this man's message of love and peace, then I invite you you join me in saying "Merry Chrismas" or Merry Xmas or whatever. In this country, you can call it what you want.
Hope your holidays are fulfilling in whatever way you celebrate.
Merry Christmas

I keep hearing the X stands for cross making it crossmas. Well, if that is so, then what does cross mean? (besides the obvious which would make crossmas make no sense at all)

Nascarjunkie,
Satan and his demons believe in God, or so says the Bible.
And based on all my studying and reading, Christmas was, for the most part, a secular holiday season co-opted by The Church. The celebration of Christmas is not mentioned in the Bible. It is not ordained or sanctioned by God (or Christ)
We, as Christians, CHOOSE to celebrate the birth of Christ at this time of year.
The way I see it, that's about as far as it goes.
Christmas is, in fact, as much about "everything else" (Santa, giving gifts, mistletoe, holly, etc.) as it is about celebrating the birth of Christ.
George is correct, X does represent Christ in X-mas. Perhaps you see nefarious intent where (perhaps) none exists?
As for me and my family,we celebrate CHRISTmas (Christ's birth) as well as Christmas (Santa and his 8 reindeer).

Merry Christmas all!

yes, satan believes in God.. of course! he used to be in the presence of God, but then he thought he could be as good or better than God... so i can see how a satanist would believe in God.. but i don't see how you can believe in God, but be a satanist... how aweful!

A lot of protestants seem to have forgotten what "mas" in Christmas stands for when they abandoned the majority of the sacraments (because only a priest in the line of succession from Peter can perform them, except for baptism). Hint: Catholic faiths such as the Roman Catholics, Episcopals, Greek Orthodox, etc,. celebrate it every Sunday.

Just a thought about the entire word.....

I have several friends with degress in theology including Ph.D.'s and ancient Greek and Hebrew are requirements in order to translate old original scriptures.

Its just an abreviation that predates Carl Marx. (Oh no, another x)

BTW, has anyone ever heard of Candlemas?

In a catholic school, yes I agree. But in a public school, someone just can't leave and you have no right to force your religon on someone else

Prayers are not stupid, if you had faith, you would know. There is a choice, you do it or you don't. I don't pray near as often as I should, and I know it, but I try to when ever I can.
Yes, prayers to me are stupid. Instead of praying to a mythical being, how about doing something for yourself.

Our country was founded on Christian principles, and sadly today, many people don't remember that. Our ancestors did not fight for people to forget.
I'm sure it was, but this ain't 1776 anymore.

You have your freedom of choice, nobody is pressing Christianity on you, but if you try to stop someone else from practicing theirs, then that is wrong.
That sounds hypocritical. I don't believe in god, so your praying is offending my belief and that is wrong.

Actually, you're wrong. In a Catholic school, you would have to stay and see it. But, in public, you have the CHOICE to stay or to leave. If you have a problem with it, you just have to tell the teacher or whoever's in charge and exercise your right to free religion.

Yes, prayers to me are stupid. Instead of praying to a mythical being, how about doing something for yourself.
Prayers are not stupid. The Lord is not a mythical being. It's proven in the Bible. Read the book of Revelations for yourself. Maybe you'll see that almost all the signs that Jesus will return have been met. And when he comes, its too late for you.

[QUOTE]I'm sure it was, but this ain't 1776 anymore.[QUOTE]

Really? Gollee, the only thing that's changed is time and technology. I'm sure all those soldiers over in Iraq fighting for us would love to meet you and hear your opinion.

[QUOTE]That sounds hypocritical. I don't believe in god, so your praying is offending my belief and that is wrong.[QUOTE]

So you're saying, you're right and everybody else is wrong.

Well, you obviously don't understand what being hypocritical is. I believe. You obviously and proudly don't. That's YOUR choice, NOT MINE.
How is that hypocritical????? Where is it???? I thought so. And nobody is holding a gun to your head saying you better believe. So, no, nobody is FORCING it on you. You make no sense. If my praying offends you, then your wacky responses offend me. If you're gonna blasphemy something, look up your info before you say anything.

I don't want to be saved by your god.
I hear its hot down in Hell.

I'm going to make this really easy:

1. No calling the beliefs of others stupid or mythical.
2. No telling others if they don't believe what you believe, they are going to hell.

The self-righteousness on both sides needs to end (especially when not following the signature guidelines). FTE is not a soapbox for anyone's brand of religion, or lack there of.
