X means more. But it is about Christ, and the "more" aspect of the X is undefined. There is no true link between X and Christ.
And if you pay attention to the news, the political correctness has come from anti-Christians. We can't pray in school, we can't even celebrate the true meaning of Christmas in school, other wise they go to whining and belly aching about how its unfair to them that they have to watch us celebrate. I wanna give them a piece of my mind.....if they don't like what we do, they don't have to stay to see it. But we can talk to them and get them interested in becoming a Christian, the better off they will be in the end.
The abbreviation XMAS for Christmas dates from the mid-16th cent. The X is the Greek letter chi, the initial in the word Xpi s t ó³_¨Christos) "Christ." In spite of a long and respectable history, today XMAS is objectionable to many, perhaps because of its associations with advertising. It is not used in formal writing.
It originated when writing involved sharpening a quill or reed or shaping a brush point, mixing up ink, producing a form of flat surface that would accept the ink, no small feat when eliminating letters or symbols saved a lot of effort. I thought the topic was a question as to how the word Xmas originated. Why would that bring forth a Christian testimonial?
You must be referring to another branch, because I have not heard of such nonsense as "wild conspiracies".
I take it you are not Christian. I am actually a Southern Baptist. And no, it is not a wild conspiracy. I've always been taught that the "X" shows irreverance. And anything is better than being atheist.

Why should I have to sit there and listen to those stupid prayers while i'm at school? Just because you feel it is the right choice doesn't make it the right choice for everyone else.
As far as the X in Xmas. I could care less what someone wants to call it, if it makes them happy more power to them.

With that level of teaching, all fraternity and sorority symbols and names could eventually be pronounced sinful. Maybe some formal education from church leaders regarding the origin of the word XMAS is appropriate to dismiss that misleading mythology. What does the word atheist have to do with the word Xmas?
Given todays political climate, the effort to remove God from Government, schools, the work place, it would seem we are trying to do away with God altogether. With todays world events, advances in technology and education, rebellion, the unification of Europe, the U.N. getting closer to becoming a one world enity controlling all aspects of government , money and religion, persecution of christians, (not so much in this country yet but the A.C.L.U is working on it), Israel being a hot spot with all eyes truned toward her, just to name a few things as described in the bible before Christs return, does anybody think a big change in the church might happen sometime soon? Really soon!? These things must come to pass. Christ will come to gather his chruch. If that aint a big change I don't know what is. No conspiracies theories here to those who believe. .
The bible says a thousand years is like a day to the Lord. So two thousand years is not long at all in the grand scheme of things. The Lord said he would return soon. Perhaps today, perhaps tomarrow, who knows? Got faith?
Thanks, Daily Driver, I don't know how I would have responded to those excuses with out your help. I'm glad you could state what I was trying to say better. The reason I used the word athiest is because they are primarily the ones who use "X"-mas, and don't like to say "Christ"mas.

Like I said, if you don't like it, YOU have every RIGHT and CHOICE to LEAVE.
Prayers are not stupid, if you had faith, you would know. There is a choice, you do it or you don't. I don't pray near as often as I should, and I know it, but I try to when ever I can.
Our country was founded on Christian principles, and sadly today, many people don't remember that. Our ancestors did not fight for people to forget.
You have your freedom of choice, nobody is pressing Christianity on you, but if you try to stop someone else from practicing theirs, then that is wrong.
You're either saved or you're not. Its up to you which path you choose.
Neither one is good, but I was just using that for reference.
I don't like debating religion, as it hurts everybody in the end. I'd rather just leave it alone and if you are interested in getting saved, I can tell you more in how, if not, I'll just leave it at this.
I ain't a preacher by no means, but I know enough to tell you the basic principles.
I can debate politics all you want, but not religion.
So we're all in agreement that even though internationally acccepted dictionaries recognize XMAS as using a Greek shortcut to recognize Christ in XMAS without ill intent, fundamentalist religions consider it a slur? There are a lot of people out there using initials as a given name. Could this be an education issue? Another layer of the mythology?
