92 Explorer 4x4 problem

92 Explorer 4x4 problem

I own a 92 xlt with 110000 on it. Recently I have been unable to engage either 4x4 my mechanic said it was the swicth which I replaced with no luck. Anybody have any suggestions to help me out now that the winter is here/ thanks

Well, I had a 91 Explorer and the 4x4 broke too. So here's what you do. Click it in 4x4 while all tires are jacked up, to check and see if your front drive shaft is spinning. If it is, then you know it is in your front end. possible hubbs, gears, etc. But if it never clicks in the electricalls could be shot, or maybe you need a new transfer case. Just check it first.

Bud,
Thanks it's definetly electrical the switch does nothing. Does anyone know what combination of the wires puts it into 4x4 to double check that it's not the switch.
