A question from the newbie..
I pulled a 429 from a 72 LTD, but the VIN says it should have had a 400. I took the block Id and head id off the engine. The head is D1VE 6015-AA and the block is D2VE-AA.Please help me answer these questions or point me to a web site that may help me.
What year(s) was this engine produced?
What is the compression ratio?
Stock horsepower and torque?
What is the the Deck Height?
Well did they put the 400 in Lincolns ?
I can't remember
The Vin # says ****S****
I would have thought it was first designed for an LTD or T-Bird .
On the heads under the valve cover are the Year/Day of casting.
On the block it is just above the starter
The comp ratio will probably be 8: 1
Stock horsepower would be about 250 hp but with lots of torque.
These rating will be posted in another thread in this forum.
Maybe do a search for *Horsepower* or *Torque*
I believe you have the block and head casting numbers reversed. DIVE is a '71 up 429/460 block and D2VE is a '72 429/460 head.
8.5:1 c/r, 10.322 deck height. If you plan to increase the c/r, get different heads. D2VE was the only open-chambered 385 head ever cast and is prone to detonation at higher c/r.
oh sorry about that I do have the block and head casting reversed. I guess I am going to have to go looking for a different set of heads. Thank you guys for the info.
For your information, there was a D1VE cylinder head. As the name suggests, it came on '71's. Also, D3 heads are also open chamber, and i would recommend staying away from anything after '70, though.
Never saw or heard of a DIVE cylinder head, thought DOOE and DOVE were the last small combustion chamber heads for the 385, as announced by Ford Racing in 1969.
