Hello I was hoping someone could help me with a problem. My truck seems to be wandering all over the road. It almost feels like I am being blown by a strong wind even when there is no wind. Everything seems tight on the front end. I had my drivers side ball joint replaced last year and my other one was good. It seems hard to keep in a straight line and feels like it steers itself sometimes and then I have to make a correction to counter it. It is a 95 F 150 2wd with an inline six. I have 100000 easy kms on it and have owned it since new. It has new tires on it, brakes and rotors. It seems to be getting worse as time goes by. I noticed it a little before, but lately I feel it is getting dangerous. I told the shop that did my ball joint that it was doing this and they didn't find anything wrong. Any suggestions? I want to fix this by myself
km74,
There are several things thatcould cause your truck to wander, worn ball joints, tie rods, steering box, bad wheel bearings, hub loose on spindle. But I suspect the radius arm bushings and axle pivot bushings are worn out. If your '95 has these items, I would start there. You can change these yourself if you are handy with tools and have a good manual. And they are not expensive items to purchase (get polyurethane instead of rubber).
have someone else turn steering wheel and look at the steering box from under the front i just fix one with a crack behind steering box if cracked you will see frame movement
Had the same problim, after replacing the compleat front end and then having two good shops look at it never got it fixed. spent $1500 on a $2000 rig with no fix not veary happy. I at one time puled a trailer with it now it is so bad the trailer makes it veary bad. I am sure someone will say it can be fixed but I did all my own work so I know it was right but not any better. The only thing that helped at all was a bigger stearing stablizer. Good luck
