I 'm looking to get into the Super Duty world and I am trying to read as much info as I can before I make a big purchase. I have heard/read lots of good and bad about the 6.0L PSD. One bit of advice I've read is to buy a true 04 Truck and 04 engine. Where on the vehicle can I obtain that info if I am at the Dealers. I certainly wouldn't want to take a salesman's word for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Check the build date on the drivers door sticker. The 04 engines started going in on sept 29th anything earlier is an 03 engine. However Iv'e got an 04 with a build date 06/29/03, It runs great. no problems yet and comming up on 6000 miles since bought Oct 31
That is correct. USMC for 25 years and still going. That why I need a Super Duty. I need a truck that will last as long as I have. Maybe that's just a pipe dream but it would be nice to have a dependable truck for the long haul.
My suggestion would be to wait and buy yourself one of the new Dodge's that will be out in June-04 with the new 600 ft. pound rated Cummins engine. They are also putting a mercedes, 5 speed automatic in the new models. They run strong, they will get excellent fuel milage. and the engine will outlast you. I love my fords but ford can't seem to get their act together, so I would err in favor of the Dodge. just my .02's worth , s.kuteman
Looked at the current Dodge with the Hemi and loved it as well. The problem is they do not have enough room for the folks riding in the back seat. Still to small for a Crew Cab. Dodge has a habit of being late to change with the market damands. Do you know if they are planning to make a change in the Crew Cab size with this new engine change?
Ya that Cummings would be alright if it didn't come with a Chrysler chassie attatched. Ask any machanic who works on them. And have you heard about the ball joints on the Dakota and the Durango? The wheels seem to keep falling off without any warning. Thats the reason I've been into Fords since 1984. I got tired of putting all the parts that kept fallen off back on those Dodges.
True story... One day I was driving to Kansas City airport from Topeka, which is about an hour drive give or take. In less than 45 miles, I saw, and this is no joke, 3 Chryslers on fire on the side of the road! Three! And I am not talking little fires either. Two of them I got the chance to see the fuel tanks go. Everyone riding with me in the car vowed never to buy a Chrysler product. I am sure it was purely coincidence, but it was definitely spooky to see three cars on fire on the same trip and all of them being the same make. Now, I have to think twice before I'll even ride in one

I agree with you on that. 2 more to go and I'll have 27 1/2 and it will be time to hang up my guns. It's been one hell of a ride. You never really retire though, you just don't go to formations anymore.
