I am going to build a 400, on propane, and I plan to use flat top pistons AND aussie quench heads. This should put the CR above 10:1, however propane is higher octane than premium fuel. If I can't find aussie heads, then 4V closed chamber Clevlands will do. You guys think the old 400 will knock apart or what? Anyone out there tried this?
Should work great, no probs. at all. My grandpa ran propane for years, it just makes the motor cleaner. You can run higher ignition timing also. One thing i never got over was the smell. At 165,000 miles, him and my dad pulled a 300 apart for the heck of it to re-ring and bearing it, just because of a rear main leak. After head removal, no ring groove and cylinders were perfect, able to use stock replacement rings. Got rid of the truck at 260,000, with the motor still running perfect.
cleaner burning, in some cases can get epa exemption to legally eliminate factory cat. converters. less maint. required overall, but will dry out valve seals slightly
