Why the hell did Ford run the spark plug cable BEHIND the motor? Has anyone else changed theirs. My coil pack is on the passenger side valve cover, so the cables are routed through the back!!!
I got so pissed just now, I yanked the cables and cable mounts completely out. The cables then got stuck behind the motor, so I just cut the cables in half and slid them out. So, about hours later..... I now have a question.
Can I rig something and just route the cables through the top of the engine. The next time I replace the cables, I don't want to go through this crap again. My truck is sitting outside with no cables going to the driver's.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Ford! I'm sure if you protect the wires with plastic tubing you can run them over the top of the motor.
Austin, did you get my email address?

I just sent you an email like 30 minutes ago.
I also enabled my email here at FTE.
Thanks.
Going to AutoZone to see what I need to rig my new wiring job.
Running the wires through the rear of the motor wouldn't have been so bad, but they were actually MOUNTED by a clip that you have virtually no access to. Yanking worked!!
Something must be different on the 2002. My coil pack sit top dead center of the intake. Changing plugs and wires was no big deal. 'Bout an hour or so.
Oh, well....I guess the 2003 model has the "new and improved" plug wire routing arrangement!
My coil pack is on the passenger side valve cover. So, three wires were routed behind the motor, next to the firewall, and tied to the motor. I guess some intern at Ford thought it would make the engine look clean. It's just as easy to route the wires through the top of the motor.
My left arm is all scraped up today from trying to remove the stupid clips and cables. I'd take a picture for you, but the digital camera is at my wife's restaurant.
Since they have the plugs and wires on the motor when they drop it in, they dont think of having to change them. I took them off the back and routed them over the top of the intake with insulated cover. What a pain.
just that flex loom stuff. I am going to use a heat resistant tie wrap with a hole in the head of it and screw it to the underside of the cowl to hold them up. It was a quick fix what I did.
Austinpower, I had the same problem with mine about 2 wks ago. I also had to be creative in my routing. I also learned that the 3 plugs on the coilpack that go to the driver's side are not numbered sequentially. Instead of 4,5,6, they go 4,6,5. Genius, I never would have thought of that, then again if my engine wasn't so dirty, I may have seen that sticker on the coilpack showing the connecting order!
