HELP...i've got a situation

alright i've got a potental serious problem. first off i have a 1989 ranger 2.3L 4x4 5spd. the motor is fuel injected. ok now my problem is i drove to school this morning and when i started home my truck just simply wouldn't go anywhere.....the temperature was in the 20's, the truck would start and idle fine but when i put it into first and stepped on the gas the motor would try and stall and then it would back fire through the intake. i let the truck run for about 30 minutes and when it warmed up i could drive it down the road but only under part throttle. when i would go to full throttle it would again bog down and backfire again. after i had gotten about 1/2 way home, about 9-10 miles, it was fine and would accelerate under any throttle position. i need to figure out what is causing this because this is my only means of transportation in bad weather and the weather is not getting any better here. thanks for all your help.
