Question negative battery cable

just recently i changed the battery cables on my truck. the point that the negative cable was grounded to on the manifold bolt is not providing a solid ground anymore. the truck has no power and i have determined that to definately be the problem. where is the best ground location for the cable?

Mine is bolted onto the front lower portion of the block. Just about anywhere on the block is good. Make sure the connection is tight and clean.

Are you sure that's why the power is down???

The negative cable grounds to the body and the motor block. Many aftermarket cables do not have the body grounding lug on them.

Make sure you have a ground from the engine to the body,it is usually around the firewall.

I rewired my ground cables. I have a smaller wire that grounds to the bulkhead next to the regulator. I then ran the big wire from the battery to the frame and continued it to the block. Pretty much assures no ground problems. There is also a factory braided wire on the back of the manifold that connects to the body.

I end up making most of my battery cables because the replacement units are not in the proper configuration. I buy those "lead free" terminals then crimp and (lead) solder wires into them to suit my needs. I don't even like the cheesy crimp terminals they put on the other ends with the cheby 3/8" holes. I buy electrical or welding cable terminals with the proper 5/16" holes and crimp/solder them also.
