Been searching for a while here looking for anything that relates to this and I found one. Anyway, I have a 97 motothome with a 460. The problem is when I start it when it is cold, it will idle for 3-5 minutes then quit. I have tried to increase the idle a little by holding the gas down, but it will still quit after a bit. I also notice that when I release the parking brake, it will sometimes hesistate or quit for a second or two. I've been to several FORD dealerships in my area, north county in San Diego, and on thought it might be a vacum leak because of a cracked exhust manifold, had that replaced, another story, and the problem is still there. From what I can see, the dealers check the onboard computer and if it doesn't give them a fault, they don't know what to do. This weekend we went out and it stalled several times as I was leaving the camp site.
I'm open for any thoughts from you experts out there.
Tough question.
Hard to even guess since I don't believe this is a common problem.
The best advice I can give you is try and figure out whether it caused by lack of spark or fuel and start from there.
If is equipped with a tachometer and it is ignition related the needle should drop of fluctuate downward rapidly when it stumbles.
I wish I could help more but it's tough to do online.
