twin plug ignition

Hello Ken00

my truck is Ranger 91, 4-cylinders, 2.3Lt, 5 speeds, 4X4, DIS system, twin plug ignition.

It won´t start since I took out the sparkplugs to get them clean
before that was running fine, there is spark and gas in the engine but won´t start, I check the coilpacks, DIS module, Crankshaft timing sensor, plugwires, all them are working fine.

I extract two codes

26 Mass Air Flow (MAF) out of self-test range
31 EVP circuit below of minimum voltage

Other thing I test the compression on the cylinders, in all of them
is low is betwen 30-50 Lbs. maybe the timing belt jump a teeth and the intake valves move open, but I check the marks on crankshaft and camshaft they are lined up.

I think the problem in my truck is something electronic.

Ken00 if you have some comments I will appreciate so much.

Thanks
Petrixx

I've been noticing that a few people are reporting compression down in the 50lb range. What type of tester are you using? One that you just hold in or one that you screw in? It is common for people using the type that you just hold into the spark plug threads to not push down with enough pressure and that can cause a false reading. If not you've got more to worry about than an electrical problem. As far as the codes, that would be Ken00's department.

I agree about the push in ones, double check the compression. If its still low put a few sqirts of oil in the cylinder and retest.

I'll look at the codes tomorrow and let you know but I don't think they would cause a no start since the system would just go into fault mode.
