Something completely waterproof also holds the moisture and warmth in and can lead to premature rust and corrosion. I think canvas or any other such material that is largely weatherproof and prevents sun fading is the way to go. That way, any moisture that gets through or rises from below can escape. Anything that holds a lot of water or is slow drying is also bad as it maintains a damp condition next to the paint.
Also, make sure it fits snugly, any rubbing or flapping will ruin the paint in short order.
I know this probably doesn't help a whole lot.
I don't know if custom car covers are available for SD's or not. I know you can get one made by a good canvas or marine cover shop, but it'll cost ya.Waxy
In the winter it sees the car wash twice a week, they actually let me go through with the plow, it's kinda funny to see the guys at the other end getting ready to towel dry it
Unfortunetly, It doesn't fit in my garage at home.
I guess I could leave it at the shop and walk the 2 miles but I'm kinda lazy that way!!

I've been thinking about getting some old steel wheels for my truck too, they dump half a potash mine on the streets here every time it snows and it kills aluminum wheels in a hurry.
What other vehicles other than an SD XL from '99 up would have compatible steel wheels?

None yet, but it has only seen 1 winter, this will be number 2.
My 99 has seen 2 winters so far and still looks great.
It seems around here, the 3rd year is when you start seeing little blemishes and then if not taken care of you end up with a rot box in no time.
Good thing is, these SD`s are tough enough to take the elements if ya cant garage it.
Now im just waiting and waiting and waiting for my new SD to be delivered! so so long a wait:-X23
How long have you been in Denver. They don't use much salt out here. They do however use lots of the Magnesium Chloride mixture that greases up everything quite nicely, and sand out the whazoo. I leave my truck out all winter as well. Just make sure to get it to the pressure washer once a week when and if the weather turns nasty. The biggest problem I have here is keeping windshield wipers in one piece. Between the sand and the "juice" that they put on the roads it makes em go quick. If you have the front bug deflectors your paint should stay relatively chip free. I just try and make sure to get 2 coats of wax on before December and keep it sprayed off til spring. Good Luck
I take all chrome and aluminum after market parts off for the winter.
The shocks I am running now ,next spring will become "winter" shocks as well, I ain't gonna wreck the Bilteins!!
At one time, I had 4 retored muscle/classic cars to store for the winter, it was the main reason we went to a bigger shop!
Then add in the boat and the wifes summer car, I needed a dam airplane hanger just to store the toys!!
I need to move West!!!!
>truck weekly it will actually be white from the salt
>residue, it is truly nasty and very corrosive.
Does anybody know if a 20.5' long truck fits in the automatic high pressure (brushless) car washes? With the SC Long Bed, I have been reluctant to try it.

I think you get a much better job at a do it yourself wand wash anyway. I move too slow and it ends up costing me $15-20, but it looks good and is thorough. If you want to see my Dad move 10 times faster than his normal pace, take him to a coin op car wash!
It's a blur of soap and water.
