Bed cover's soft? hard? Electric rolling? bed cap?
i have a soft tonneau on my 95 f150 shortbox. its the snap down kind. came with the truck. works fine for me and looks good too i think. look at as many trucks and pictures that you can to determine what you think looks best. it depends on what your gonna haul in the back too. if its just little stuff then go with a hardtop, if you need to take it off to haul a fourwheeler or whatever, then the softop is the way to go. the ******es you can obviously lock, as opposed to the soft ones where somebody can steal stuff out of them. im thinkin about taking mine off and putting a diamondplate toolbox in the back, because then i can haul my tools more safely, and still have an open bed since i live on a farm and am always hauling stuff. and im not in a city either so i dont really have to worry about locking anything up. it all depends on what you use your truck for and what you think looks good. prices are a big factor too!

I have a Sportsmaster hinged soft cover. I love it. I live in the northeast and my other soft covers where impossible to deal with in the cold months. The Sportsmaster is hinged so if I need to remove it 2 pins and it is off. have had it for two years and the shocks just gave out. I called Sportmaster and they sent me two new shock FREE this is after the guy that sold me the top wanted to charge me $65 for them. Good luck

I love the Truxedo. Made by Shurco (make tarps for semi's), it is supposed to stay soft even in the cold temps. I just put it on in June, so I will see how it does this winter. Rubber weatherstrip at the front and back, vecro down the sides keeps the bed dry. It also has a lifetime warranty. I got it from www.tentsontrucks.com .

I put on a BlackMax by Extang a little over a year ago. Eventhough it snows around here it doesn't stick around for too long. I had no problems at all last winter. It comes w/ two different heights for the rails and the snaps can be turned for added loosness. I like it for its versatility. Keeps bed waterproof and for the most part dirtproof, easily rolls up for loads higher that the bed,... I like it because its not permanent and is relatively inexpensive that meets my needs. Good luck.

I have a Craftec brand on mine. It's a soft material, with an aluminum frame under it. If you want to take it off, you just tilt it up vertical and it comes out of the hinge. It also has shocks on it to keep it up when getting things in and out, much like a hard tonneau cover. I like it. I would love a roll away, but little too pricey for my blood. I'm very happy with my purchase

Sorry a little late on the post. I have a Pace Concepts "Jackrabbit" model tonneau cover it is the retractable type. If you want to haul something taller than the bed you let it role up to the fornt of the bed. It has "ratchet" locks every 12" so you can open/close it at 12" increments. It supposedly hold about 250# of snow load although I would not recommend standing on it im sure if someone did it would be trash. The also have a electric retractable type for about $300 more. for the extra $300 I can pull a strap to retract it! You can take a look at it at the manufacturers website www.pace-edwards.com It also has rubber gasketed sides and everything I have stored in the bed so far stays dry There is also another manufacturer called roll-n-lock it's basically the same their website is www.rollnlock.com. Hey I have nothing agains the soft type of tonneau covers but I would prefer to have to have a key to get under the thing because I like to keep tools and stuff below. I installed mine myself and it only took about 2 hrs to do. Really really simple step by step instructions. Good Luck

I have the Retrax cover on my truck. This is a roll up hard top cover. It is made of polycarbonate. It rolls up really easy and can lock anywhere on the rails. You can roll it up to the front of the truck to haul big things if you need to. it is very sleak. i have had mine for about a year now and i have had no problems with it at all. You can see it at www.rolltopcover.com

While not exactly what you are asking, I have an Undercover hard ABS plastic cover that is removable. It is also waterproof and locks over the end of the tailgate. It is easy to remove (weight 65lbs; removed it twice) and the hardware is not overly noticeable. All the hardware clamps onto the truck, no drilling required.
Anyhow, not quite as flexible as the soft or fold up types of covers, by is sure to be waterproof and provides more security for items in the truck bed than the alternatives.
