Have an F250 5.4 V8 with 4.10 gear; what brand 5th wheel are any of you running? I've never been setup for one, so I'm completely ignorant. I saw a 5th wheel setup with added gooseneck capability, but thought it was a bit pricey ($600). I would like to be able to do both, and also want to be able to remove the wheel without a lot of work for hauling.
Thanks in advance.
most of your 5th wheel mounts are rails that mount permanently in the bed and attach to the frame (thru the floor of the bed). I did my own work and had little trouble.
Reese makes rails that mount this way and also provide 5th wheel mounts and a thing they call a "goose" which is a 2 5/16 ball mounting unit that slips into the rails after the 5th wheel is removed.
have fun and dont overdrive your truck. always leave room in front for stopping!!!!!

I couldn't have said it any better!!! I run a reese 15,000 pound hitch. If you would like this weekend I can shoot some pics of it for you. It has two rails that mount in the bed and then the hitch part just slides in and has hitch pins to hold it down.
I also run a Reese 15K (now know as the 16K). Recommend getting the dual pivot as it really helps when on uneven ground.
The following site is NOT the Reese hitch builder website, but they do sell Reese and other brand hitches. Take a look around at some of the various offerings. www.reesehitch.com
Also, read www.irv2.com and www.trailerlife.com to see what experienced RV-ers have to say.
I have recently purchased a reese 15k dual pivot slider. So far I have no complaints about the hitch. I am pulling a 5th w/ a gvw of 13,000. The truck is a 350 super w/ the diesel. Happy Hunting
