my dad's got an 89 f150 (5.0) and coolant was leaking from under the water pump (on the passenger's side) but not out of the weep holes. i figured it was a bad gasket in the pump. replaced those and it still leaked with a consistent drip. it looks like it's coming from behind the timing cover, but is this possible? no oil or anything in the coolant. i read another post about someone having this problem and it sounds like a leak from behind the timing cover isn't possible (which i was thinking), but my t stat is not leaking and neither is the little bypass hose.
i guess my question is this: can a coolant leak come from behind the timing cover on this motor? (i'm familiar with the FE, not the 302)
any advice or opinions would be much appreciated
thanks
Coolant passes through the timing cover, so I guess it's possible to leak between there and the block. However, it would more thank likely end up in your oil pan if that was the case.
thank you very much. i guess i'll rip off the timing cover tomorrow.
with 150000 on it, would it be a good idea to just replace the timing chain also? anything else i should look for while i'm in there?
thanks again
