I recently bought a 2001 f350/5.4 to tow a 18' cattle trailer. On county roads not going into overdrive I push a little over 3000rpms at 63mph. The truck pulls fine I was just wondering if this motor was made to run at high rpm for extended periods, or if this is even high rpm's for this motor. Thanks, this is my first post.
Unlike the engines of old, these new overhead cam engines are made to rev high and stay there. As kehale said; running 3000 RPMs is no big deal. Redline is about 5500 RPMs and the full-throttle shift point is 5200. So, DRIVE ON!!!
Thanks for the input. I never knew shift pts were that high. I always had trouble going from third to fourth with a lug but I never pushed it over 3500 rpm. You are right with a trailer milage falls. I have stated to run Mobil Synthetic and put in a Kool-Blue filter helps some.
Mine is 4.10 limited slip with manual trans.
