Odd thing happened last night to me in the Aero. The brake booster line decided to pop off on me, fortunately I was in a parking lot at the time. When I went to reattach it, I noticed that the line had a little bit of fluid in it. By consistancy, I would guess it was Brake Fluid, not oil or transmission fluid. Anyone know what this is a sign of? I'm going to replace the hose this weekend, hopefully with a silicone one, but it still worries me that there was fluid in the vacuum line.
Very irritating. Thanks for the ideas. I have reason to believe that it's probably the master cyl then. It's too thin and the wrong color to be tranny fluid. Has anyone ever replaced one?
I replaced one on our '91 and it was really fairly easy. Some can be bench bled and some cannot. There should be tag within the box notifying you. Otherwise it is a simple swap and line bleed.
Not sure what year yours is but if I were going to do mine again, I would consider taking the advice of this article I came across regarding checking and setting the pushrod to vacuum booster. Here's the link and crayon method of setting it is found near the end of the article. My brake pedal has always seemed less firm than I would like and I have wondered whether adjusting this rod would improve the feel. http://www.babcox.com/editorial/bf/bf69936.htm

You probably have a leaking master cylinder if brake fluid is getting into the vacuum line to the booster, but wouldn't this also mean that the booster has a leak? I'm not sure, but isn't the vacuum portion of the booster internally separated/sealed from the pushrod extension? If not, how does it maintain a vacuum?
