Elecrical Help

I am not much of an electrician and I have a problem with my blinkers and even my brake lights (when the pedal sticks) staying on after the truck is turned off and the key removed from the ignition.

And....? Most (all) vehicles have power to the brake lights weather or not the key is on. My 67 has power to the turn signals after the key is off. Are they shorting so that they are on when you don't want them to be, or are you just wondering why they have power?

I'd be a bit more concerned about why the pedal sticks.

Looking at the official wiring diagram the brakes should be hot with the ignition off but the turn signals should be off. On my 69 the pedal does not always return completely to the stop if the weather is really cold. I ran the battery down a couple of times when the brake light stayed on. Once I figured out what was happening I adjusted the switch slightly so that even if the pedal didn't return completely to the off stop the lights would stay off.

The 67 has a different type switch then the newer(after 68 or so) type. When you push the pedal, it releases and applies power to lights. I would get under the dash and see what kind of adjustment can be made. I know there should be some, but have not looked at mine recently to tell you.

My 69 brake switch has stripped threads and pushed thru the bracket, which left the lights on. I had to put a small hose clamp on it to keep it in place. It uses a normal closed type switch, that way it errors ON, instead of OFF.

The switch on the 67 is an open case type, which means you can see it work. Take a shot of WD and make sure it works smoothly. Might just be a bit stiff from NON-use.

Turn signals should NOT work with key off. If they do, then someone has jumped the power so they do. Is there any jumpers on the fuse box, or under the dash. They should not come on without the key.

great info. i will look to see if thee is a jumper on the turnsignals. they are my concern now that i know the brakes are supposed to have power. thanks guys!!!!
the brake pedal doesnt stick so much as it doesnt return all the way to the top far enough to turn off brake lights. i can put my foot underneath and apply a little pressure and they go off although the pedal doesnt really seem to move.

I would look into making sure your brakes are adjusted fully tight. Might be that they are loose enough that they dont pull back far enough to raise the pedal up.

Just a thought.
