Sir, I think you are overthinking this oil filter thing. It's pretty simple. Stick your finger in a new jug of oil, rub fresh oil on the new filter gasket, make sure the old filter gasket is not stuck to the boss, spin on the new filter, snug it up hand tight....presto your done. I've never heard of backing it off after its snug. Been changing oil for almost 40 years, even did it professionally for awhile.
