Can anyone tell me where the diagnostic port is located on a 1996 F250? I am thinking about getting a Superchip microtuner to reprogram the chip but I want to make sure I know where the thing plugs in before I buy it.
Within 3 feet of your steering collum (Required by law, OBD-II mandate). Most likely under the driverside dash. Mines an OBD-I so I cannot tell you exactly were it's at, but I should be right.
Actually guys......I didn't find anything inside the cab of the truck (either under the dashboard or ashtray) and I was upside down under the dash trying to find it.......I did find a plug in the engine compartment on the firewall that says 'EEC Test' (a "D" shaped plug) that I assume is a diagnostic connection.... Can't find anything in my Haynes service manual (like that's a surprise) about it...
On a 96 with OBD-II the diagnostic port was relocated to the interior by the gov't. Mine's at the bottom edge of the I/P about even with the right end of the asytray. The older models had it in the engine compartment
strage guru is right on that, but on some fords for some reason (like some mustangs) they are located facing sideways out of the center console about the rear of the radio distance back so you gotta really look. it is normally black and compact. the old EEC one you are talking about was on pre-96 vehicles right next to the hood hinge (driverside) fender, inside compartment of course. and about 2x the size fo the new SLC connector
So even though my truck is titled as a 1996 model, I could assmue that it was built and sold before the government mandate was effective....possibly late '95....? If so....does this also mean that the Superchip 1715 microtuner will not work with my truck?
Since it's an F250, the OBD-II regs might not apply to it. I'm not sure when they applied to over 8500 GVWR. If the connector is under the hood, for sure it's OBD-I
