65 on ebay
Needless to say, he backed out of the deal and is re-listing it.
Mike G. You're correct, eagle eyes. The truck has power brakes.
He still doesn't have a rating at all on e-bay. So big buck buyers will be antsy about forking out big $$$.
Since you have seen & Inspected truck & know more than most everybody else about it, you actually know what it is, how it is, and whether or not it's up to your standards. You have the advantage because you can go there and stand infront of the guy with your "Dead President" collection in your hand so he can see smell & "feel" its' presence in the " here & now".
Hard cash will take truck!
If you want it, go there convinced with clear idea you're taking it home when you leave. Don't go thinking you'll find out "IF" you can buy it, go there to buy it.
Also have a buddy/ partner who schill for you, & can hold a few of your bucks for you, in case seller's a "gamer" & wants to act out or play a "role". If you plan to spend $5K take it. You hold $4K in big denominations, and your schill holds $1K in mixed bills, hundreds, fifties, 20s - 10s - 5s & singles.
Just make it look like you're ready but had to struggle to get the $$ up you have. Then ask your partner if you can borrow a few bucks to close the deal. The guy will think he's "got you" and get off the truck partly because of that fact.
I have learned to be "Doubting Thomas" over things I can't see or touch in person. I think Donald Trump, the Millionaire Mogul, is who says his "secret" for success is be totally-110% focused, be slightly skeptical, a little paranoid, but when you are absolutely sure, then act swiftly with vengance.
I been trying to follow that since I heard it. I'm not a millionaire Mogul [yet that is] But I have collected a lot less marginal junk and "maybe things" in my life, and if/ when I "Want Something" I seem to get it on my terms, quickly now. My post tended to look at negatives & inconsistencies, or things which were unclear. But experiencing truck as you have, you now know what's up with it.
Check to see what similar trux are selling for national average, equal to the truck you looked at. If there's a match inyour mind then strike and buy it.
See what his bids look like at 1/2 way, offer a few hundred more, or a hundred over whatever his penalty would be if he yanked it. And when you makle the offer go there with the cash in $100s & $50s and be ready to drive the truck home then....I bet a cold 6 you get it for what you think it's worth. If it's all you say it is, after looking at it, it's a $5K - $6K piece all day long everywhere, and probably as much as $10K in the "right Place at the right time".
So Jenner how's that for a 180 degree turn on a position?.
THe explanation of the seat & small wheel suits my curiosity fine, so does the Bed rust/ bed mat explanation, and I'm glad there is P/B on it because I thought I saw the booster there too. . .
Anywy, judging by all those small flubs seller has demonstrated so far, I doubt he's the sharpest drill in the drill index box.
SO what I'm sayin is if you want it and can get it for under $5K get it, it looks to be well worth that anywhere. It would cost 10K to build. . . .IMHO
P.S. The front bumper looks wrong the way it is wider than the body, i know that on my dads 65 the bumper came around a fit the body real close it was a rough one so i changed it one that is mint shape and it sticks out off the body like that one. I saw in a catalog where i t goes by the vin# on what front bumper.
You may get the best deal buying it via eBay. Of course, if you go and he gives you the deal you want to end early, then great. But, I suspect that it will go for less than $5000 on eBay, based on his rating of zero. Maybe a lot less. You could bid it up slowly on eBay till you get to his reserve (that the minimum he will take) -- but that will jeopardise your ability to buy it outright in person.
Good luck....
By the way -- caveat emptor to all other readers of this forum -- I have seen eBay scams that incorporate forums and supposed "other" parties that seek to build confidence in the item for sale. This is Jenner's truck. Mostly, cause I believe he's honest and he is the one that went to the trouble (and had the opportunity) to check it out in person. But also because there is an outside chance that Jenner is just warming us up to overbid on a truck. Leave it to him -- I doubt he will disagree with me on this one, in either case!!!

Let's re-cap the forum's review of the the 65 F100 (in no particular order):
1) 66 Grill, Hedlight covers and I believe someone said winow trim.
2) 67-69 Tailgate (*not* painted correctly)
3) Suposedly "Custom Cab" but the valuable chrome removed.
4) Not #'s matching
5) Motor/transmission mismatch.
6) Radio "carving" posibility
7) Rust in bed
8) No power steering and a little bitty steering wheel
9) Power brakes and the owner doesn't know? (must not work, huh)
10) Front and rear bumpers not correct. (tho rears not so bad)
Thanks to you all for that information. Not included here are worth, and other valuable opinions that have been offered.
As far as ebay is concerned I, personally, would never buy a vehicle I haven't seen or driven. While I might fall in love with a truck and rave about it to you guys, yours tastes and opinoins may be entirely different and you certainly should see the vehicle for yourselves.
If I can purchase the vehicle at a price that makes me feel good about it I'll do so. Feel not price is the difference. That's why I'm here on this forum and thanks to you folks I am much more informed about any decision I might make. I make no particular claims to the vehicle. If it happens then it happens.

Finding a "rust free" 38 year old truck is nearly impossiable, short of a high dollar trailer queen.
If ya got $4500.00, and want the truck, I say go for it.
John
You make a deal drive two hour to see it then he will not sell it. This guy seems fishy to me. You've got a good amount of cash you'll find a nice truck somewhere else.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
My dad sold Fords for 42 years. FWIW a couple pearls of wisdom he passed down to me:
-Never buy a vehicle you are not prepared to walk away from. If you "have to have" a certain vehicle, you will leave money on the table and the seller will thank you for it (not).
-re: NEW car purchases, if you don't walk out, you leave about a $1k on the table. They want to sell it more than you need to buy it.
-re: this truck. His reserve in ad text is $3500. If I remember the original attempt to sell, he didn't even come close to this.
Suggestion: wait for the sale to end, the offer him $100 more than the top offer. He's told you he only wants $3500 for it. He's hoping to drum up more bucks via the auction.
watch the auction, if he gets his reserve, it will sell. If you want to play that game, sign into eBay and get ready to bid. Put your top dollar limit in as a bid within the last 30 seconds. Let the other bidders play the game of trying to nickel and dime individual bids trying to beat your bid. If your bid gets outbid, walk away.Another thought after writing up all the "tricky eBay" stuff. Let's see if I understand everything. His reserve is $3500, you are willing to pay $4500. If you place a single price bid at his reserve, you lock him into selling the truck. Perhaps not to you, but to someone. Now go back to Watch the Auction (provided the price hasn't risen past your drop dead investment level).
Good luck and happy bidding.

"This guy seems fishy to me". I don't disagree here.
"tricky eBay" stuff". The rules are followed by those with and those who want to keep positive feedback. This guy may be a first time seller or he may not.
One thing that I looked at, is the total overall look of the truck. If you check out the photo galleries of this and other truck sites you will see a lot of very well used trucks of this vintage. Although not perfect by any means this truck looks pretty darn good overall. The paintjob is what folks see and what turns heads.
There may be enough Texas trucks that look that good to pass it over, I don't know. I just haven't read anything about the truck itself to make me run from it.

Hope you got it. Possible that someone "lurking" here or who knows where went over and offered him the $4500 and he jumped.
later....
If you were not the buyer of the truck then it would seem we were correct about the seller in the beginning, huh? Looks like he was/is fishy afterall. . . YUP!, looks like just another shark selling vehicles by trying to get over on eBay users!
I agree with CDHerman if you are/were not the buyer lodge a complaint against the seller, and his sale!. . . . Next time the guy will have a sellers rating. Some folks just don't do things as they should. That's not right in my way of seeing things!
Oh Well have a Happy Christmas either way - anyway

I'd sure like to hear from Jenner. Hope he got the truck.
Because it may just be coincidental that he registered close to the time the truck listed, got info, and went to try to buy the truck in person....
Or cdherman may be right, and that the registration here is not coincidental because that would jive with a seller with no rating and the fact that he made his last post here a day before the auction mysteriously ended. Jenner got gratis info to see what his truck was worth which would jive with the fact that the owner is not a Slicks guy (hello, p/b vacuum booster line going to motor), changed his mind about the price, came up with a ****-and-bull story about wrong e-mail (as a long-time eBayer, I know it's hard to get your dang e-mail wrong) relisted it and changed hotmail addresses (so easy) and then didn't respond to shakespeare's gracious offer to come help because he was the seller. And the butler did it in the study with a gun.
Grandaddy always told me to look for the good in people first, so I would like to believe "Jenner" is a good guy looking for info to make a play on an obviously really nice Slick, came to our site in good faith to get all of this kick a$$ wisdom that is so freely dispensed here, got it, and went out with Fbp's brutally cool sales tactics (love ya, Fbp
Not that Jenner would admit it, but the silence of a lack of response would be deafening.

I think you "Nailed the Hit right on the head yourself", there!
One hadda be listenin' when Gran' Daddy Spoke to see the light by the end of the day (or substitute auction for day there) Huh?
Somehow I think the reason our world was gentler a while back is because I don't know a lot of Ol'timers many people could get over on. The "timers" of Old were too smart because things were too hard to come by to let a Travelin' Snake Oil Merchant leave town with ones hard earned cash over, doncha think?
The power of truth is in how true the adage... "If things look too good to be true they probably aren't", How true that is! I know my Grandad said that all the time, another one was "Buying a pig in a poke." I heard that most all my life. I had to be 18 when I finally said to him, I don't know what you mean by that Grandad, What is a Poke?
He told me he'd been wondering how long it would take me to ask that. A poke it what keeps you from seeing truth, or from understanding something, like a large sack, or bag, or the word poke itself. He was right!
Once he said that, I saw the huge, real, value of his whole lesson there. A Pig in a Poke Sack, sure! Until I admitted I had no idea what he meant by poke, I was avoiding the truth that I had no clue what he meant, so Poke [the word} shielded truth from me, but not GranDad Geez he saw right through me and the poke too. . . go figure huh?
Hope you & yours Had a Super Christmas, we missed ya, welcome back!
