I've always had leaks with permatex, and never had leaks with the cork end gaskets (and permatex at the corners). I know this is a heavily debated issue and I'm not going to get into a debate, just relating my own experience.
I have always used the gaskets with the permatex at the corners as well and never had problems. It is interesting to me that so many have used a thick bead like this thread indicates. I have always been told that it was a bad idea to use permatex in that fashion as burned valves are an unacceptable consequence. I guess that experience shows otherwise so I will keep this open as an alternative to failure of the standard way in the future. Good information for me. Consider me educated.

Well the intake is on I used the cork end gaskets and used the permatex to hold them down with a small amount at end of the cork gaskets and torqued the bolts down to specs so far so good no leaks yet? Thanks for the input. Andrew
I would look up another brand of gasket, perhaps get some serious race gaskets if you cant get your permatex to stick, personally i have never had a problem with Mr.Gasket and orange RTV on both sides of it
