I have a HTX 100, 10 meter tranciever that I would like to install in the spot where the stock stereo is now. It's a prety big opening and if I replace the stock with a slimmer after market stereo, it seems like it will fit. Has any one done this, or installed anything else in the large opening along with an aftermarket radio? 2002 F150.
My old Kenworth T2000 had the CB (Cobra LTD 29) mounted in the dash right under the stereo it caused nothing but headaches with a lot of interference between the two. When ever I keyed the mic on the CB it came through the FM or CD. I finally yanked the CB out of the dash and installed a cover plate with a calculator, clock and in/out thermometer ice alarm, then I mounted a Ranger Export over head.
Here's a pic of how close they were to each other.
Yeah I thought about the overhead thing. The 10 meter radio is kind of long though. What I might do is swap the shorter CB to the overhead spot and put the 10 meter rig where the CB is now. I here ya on the noise issue, might take some creative shielding if i'm gonna mount there , huh?
What gets in the way of the overhead install is the visor extension. You know, the piece of the visor that goes over the rear view mirror. Wonder if I can swap them out for a different style of visor? The more I think about it, the better I like the idea over head mounting the CB.
