Question What do you think?

i have a crossfire vr 300d amplifier, which is rated @ 150 watts@ 4ohms or 300 watts @ 2 ohms.
i plan on getting a diamond audio CM3 12" DVC subwoofer (4ohms). its rated at 500 watts RMS, and will be wired in parallel. i know my amp doesnt have 500 watts, but should the 300 watts for each coil i have be enough to push the sub? how do you think it will sound? (still trying to decide on a sealed or something else box) this will be going in the trunk of my ford contour...

i not sure if the amp will work with the sub. is the sub 4 by 4 or 2 by 2? i just don't know if the mean 4 ohm total or 4 ohms by 4 ohms. as far as a box, i all ways go sealed if there is room. it will give the best output.

You can make up for a lack of power by altering enclosure size. Smaller box = more power needed for the X output. Bigger box = less power needed to reach X output.

I'm a huge fan of big sealed boxes. As far as output, sealed will have much less than ported...99% of the time. Ported enclosures have the driver AND port working for you. Low end output can be as loud as 8-9 dB's louder than a sealed enclosure (down real low, usually...in the 30-50 hz range). Plus, they are more efficient. Sealed will have better sound quality, and provides a near flat in car response when designed to work with your cabin's transfer function. If you want natural, smooth sounding bass, in an easy to build enclosure, go with a medium to large sealed box. If you want loud, somewhat peaky output that will make your nose bleed, go ported. The ported can be eq'd to give near sealed enclosure sound quality, but it will still lag a tad behind because the driver and port are out of phase with one another and group delay is sometimes noticeable...to some people. Depends on what ya' want from your system, I suppose

vas spec is 26.8 (from spec sheet). what is vas?
i could build my own, ive never built one before, but i could use the woodworking shop in my school, since the woodshop teacher is my sponsor...if i were to build my own, i would need to know the dimensions...since i really dont know, and i wouldnt want to screw it up...
(spec sheet for subwoofer-pdf file- http://www.diamondaudio.com/Files/pr...c%5Frev1%2Epdf)

go out and measure the space u are willing to give up and give us dimensions. i made a big ol ported box t fit behind the seat of my 93 and it worked pretty well that i made in my woodshop last last year in high school. i took it out because it was to loud, lol...

i was thinking 1.5 ft^3 for the ported box with a 13" vent or .6-1.2 ft^3 for the sealed box. thats what the manual says. however, the manual says the subs are designed for small sealed enclosures but that bandpass and ported boxes work well too.
(also says a high pass filter should be used for non sealed applications...i dont know what the hell that means...)i have plenty of space in my trunk, contours have huge trunks (for a car that size). i would prefer not to take up the whole damn trunk though lol.

ok i didnt realize u had a contour. that makes things easier but could u measure how tall the trunk is? (where the trunk lid mounts to the rest of the car so u can get the box in) and how wide it is? a high pass filter is essentially a cut off point. it allows for the higher notes, whatever the brand is made for, to be blocked off. in a ported box the range of frequceny is determined by the base frequecny (IE, tuned for 30 hz) and it has a range higher and lower then the base tuning. anything over the middle of the higher range will cause the woofer to be damaged by over-excursuion.

yeah my amp doesnt have a high pass filter, only a low one. i think ill just go for a sealed box, for simplicity and sound quality. ok so i measured the dimensions: the height is around 19.75". i have a subwoofer mounted in the right side of the rear deck, so i have room for a width of 17" or less, and, if possible, a height of 14" would be ideal for the box. im using these dimensions so that the 12" will fit perfectly below the 8" in my rear deck with about 3 inches left over(which is in a small box). so 14" for height, ? for width, and ? length. what about a box that is 14x14x14?

14x14x14 is roughly 1.3 or so cubes. so u'll be fine there with all things considered (space the actual driver(s) take up, etc...).
