This is a problem. Not only on the 1/2 ton fords but on the 1/2 ton dodge trucks as well.
If its not too bad yet you may get away with welding thick washers over the effected areas. I am a fan of using a one piece plate, the thicker the better. 3/8" is usually more than adequate But remember, you've got to cut it! I clamp it down, somehow and cut it with a sawsall. Put the steering gear against it and mark your holes, then drill.

Yeah it usually happens. What i did on my truck to fix it was i welded the cracks shut then i welded a whole peice right over the whole frame to bolt the steeringbox to.
