is this the hubs going

my bronco has a problem, well lots really but one that is high on my list. at about 60-65 if i let off the gas to slow down, every once in a while i get a horrible vibration that feel like the drivers hub trying to engage (today it seemed to pull to the drivers side), but i have the manual hubs. and it only does so at that speed and every once in a while. and this is in 2h hubs unlocked, but i know that 4wheel works, is this the hubs? or something simple or much worse?

Could be a bearing or a bushsing.

Bushing would make it un-aligned, and then when you hit high speeds there would be slack in the bushing allowing the axel/wheel to jump around a little.

Just an idea to check out.

I would tend to agree with Youngblood on the bearing issue. But just the same, there is a spring in your hub that holds it to the outer position, (2wd unlocked), if that spring has died, then it would allow the hub mechanism to slide in and try to engage.

You would be surprised just what a vibration will go through. But if you can seem to hear it or feel it coming from one side then the hubs would be a good place to start. Then work your way towards the center and the middle of the truck.

no, it now really seems to be coming from the tranny/clutch area

OK, now that you have seemed to have got it centered, Then I would check the u-joints and the centering pin in the yoke on the rear driveshaft. Has some funky name but I can never remember what the assembly is called. Its 2 u-joints side by side toawrds the front of your rear shaft. Anyway, if the u-joints or the centering pin is bad, then you will get a vibration in the "slack" area. Just when you let off the gas but before the tranny grabs. Kind of like holding the throttle with just enough to hold your speed on a flat road. You can get the same if the rear u-joint on the rear shaft is bad too. The fronts have one size and the rear another. So in all, check all 3 on the rear shaft. I still have that prob now but only cause Im too lazy to get off my butt to get it fixed.

Check this site...they have kinds good pics.

Pul the entire rear shaft, from T-case to the rear end. then you can check it over completely on a work bench or something. A little tip...put the truck in 4x4 low...locked hubs and all. This will help hold the truck in place while the shaft is out. check real close on the centering pin. There is a small cap that it goes through and if that is rough or damaged, there is your vibration. The u-joints should move smoothly. if not, replace em.

YEA!! Thats the name! I will prolly forget it by morning but that is what I am talking about.
