I live in dfw also and it is not illegal to run true duals. Go to any muffler shop and they tell you that you can run 2 high-flow cats and an x/h-pipe under neath it. If you live around Hurst go to Kinneys muffler shop. They have diagrams that show you what you can and cannot do to your truck. They also have most every system that you want on video so you can here how it sounds on their surround sound. But if you dicide to get them to do it, You better get ready to open your wallet. I went in there and to do this it was going to run me about $800.00! I am just going to buy all the parts off the computer and take it to the guy that better fits my budget. Hope that helps you out.

I finally got my exhaust system in. I decided to go 40 series single in dual out with the tips exiting at each corner of the truck. I think it sounds alright, wouldn't mind it being alittle louder, but right now it's fine. I actually like the interior rumble at low RPM acceleration. I think my dad likes it too although he's not that quick to say it. There was a big smile on his face when he was revving it up so that I could hear it. My mom on the other hand, now that's a different story. Anyways, thanks for all the help that y'all gave me back in December. It was well worth it.

what year is your truck, you just did the same exact thing i did to my lwb 90 f150 with chrome bells angled out the back from a dual outlet flow. do you have 2 cats, i did and i could not hear a thing really. take just one cat off and you will be happy, i wish i did.

Theres nothing like the sound of dumped exhaust, with no cats and dual flowmaster 40's is there? Thats what I got....whatever Ford I get next, that same setup is going on it, with the addition of some Headers

f100guy, my truck's a 98 with the 5.4. I'm pretty sure it's got the precats and the cats too. If I were to replace both cats with high flow ones, would that open the sound up anymore? Also, how do y'all feel about headers? Would they help with sound too? And by sound I mean the exterior sound level. I had my friend drive my truck while I was in his camero and his camero blew my truck away as far as loudness goes even though all he's done to his was put a 50 series muffler on his. Any suggestions?

Headers would help the sound out....replacing those old cats with some high flow cats would most definatly help out in the sound area and hp too....hope that helps

Thanks for all of the help guys, and sorry I didn't respond for a month. Work picked up at the Ballpark...or now Ameriquest Field...but hey, the Rangers are actually over 500. It's more fun working for a team that's actually winning for a change. My exhausts has been on for about a month now and it's starting to get more sound to it. I haven't replaced any cats or gone to headers yet, but I hope to sometime in the future. Right now I'm just looking for ways to up my gas mileage and offset the price of gas...even though Texas has some of the cheapest in the states...I believe. I think I'll probably replace the stock intake next, and then do headers and a Tonnoue cover. Anyways, thanks again for all the help that y'all have given me.

Hey man, glad to see things are going well...Yeah im a Cubbie fan myself, their doing alright 3 or 4 gms over 500....But,....i think gas around here is like $1.84...wish so bad i had a Diesel...$1.67

A tonneuo cover would help out alot on the gas factor...maybe a cold air intake....my gas mileage sucks soo bad, I dont even bother with it, I try not to floor it everywhere i go...if i do that, then im lucky to get 225 miles to the tank...if i floor it ill get like 150 lol....maybe do a search on FTE for low buck ideas on saving gas...i know theres tons of leads for that kinda stuff....well good luck

Well... I don't have to worry too much about gas prices much anymore. Back 2 months ago some kid failed to yeild to me at an entersection and T=boned me. Insurance said there was over $13,000 worth of damage plus the fram was bent in at the fractory bend. I looked at it and saw the fram smashed the cat. clean against the motor. I was never more upset and disappointed for my truck. Now I just got a 2003 XL 6cyl 5 speed and get 400 miles a tank. Even though I now have to shift and don't have the nice sound and power I can be a bit happier that I get much better gas mileage. I have been thinking about trying to find a turbo off a deisel and drop it in this 5 banger.

Diesels are really good trucks. My dad has an Excursion with the 7.3 PSD in it, and he can get right around 23 mpg. We usually only use it for towing though...but that's really what diesels do best. I'm with you on the trying not to floor it...even though it still happens sometimes. Just can't resist the urge to feel the V8 roar. I've been doing a lot of searching on mpg gains and have learned quite a lot. My parents and I had a deal through high school, if I would buy the truck...which was from my dad when he bought the Excursion...they would pick up gas and insurance. I guess I never really knew how much my parents paid for gas until I picked it up myself once I graduated this year. And with my limited student budget and what little hours the Rangers can give me, I've just been looking around for ways to get more from the tank. Gas is basically the same here, I guess it's probably pretty consistent throughout the south, at...well, it actually went down to 1.76 the other day hope it's still the same when I leave tomorrow when I leave to make a trip down to A&M.

Sorry about your truck dirtbiker...but hey, the gas mileage pays off. Earlier you said that you lived in the DFW area and that you also had a little boy. If you ever make it out to see the Rangers play...when he's a bit older...take him to the center field area (fun zone for the kids) for a bit. That's where I work right now and the kids always have a blast out there and I'm sure he probably would too.

hey, if you are serious about the turbo idea like i was so close to doing on my stang, then i have the turbo you want. it came off of a diesel( from my diesel mech college classes). it is a smaller one and i was told it was good for cubic inches up to 300.

Thanks for the info f100guy, but for now I am going to have to pass I think. I am in the process of buying a new house and trying to sell my current one. I am trying to save some money for some things for the new house, but when I am ready I will try to contact you about it. I too have some parts from my wrecked v8 that I need to sell, but I got in trouble for trying to sell them in an open chat here. You aren't allowed to do that i guess. E-mail me at gaff689@hotmail.com if anyone is interested. (hope I don't get in trouble again for doing it this way....)
