When I pop the clutch in second, I can tear the tire(s) loose, even with tehse better tires....problem is, the back passenger corner sinks literally 1/2 foot and the back end goes aobut a foot to teh left when I do this. This just started a few weeks ago, when I took 100 pounds of wait I had sitting over the rear axle on the pasenger side....Am I suffering from axle wrap? and is it doing this now casue the added wait for 40k miles wore the shockes or something out? How can I fix it? It is rather unnerving how it feels, when the other tire spins it does not do this at all, either in same direction or opposite.
That sounds like you might have broken something. I would look carefully at the brackets, springs, shackles and "U" bolts for cracks as soon as I could. If nothing is broken you could add "Shure Track" type bars available from jc whitless and 4x4 shops.
Hmm...this is the only time that it seems off, and it 'theoretically because I have never known a vehicle I was in to suffer from it' the symptoms of axle wrap but do not know for sure.
But I will wash it today and climb under with a maglite and look for anything out of whack.
And no, base model 150.....oh sorry yeah this is in the 02 sport 2WD 5spd.
I'm not sure if those bars work on the later models. Axle wrap typically mean the rear housing actually rotates excessively under power and it can break "U" joints and spit out drive shafts. Not neccessarily related to uneven traction.
Wel, I checked my suspension last night, nothing was found, even put it up on jacks to shake it around, nothing. I am try to get this figured out so as not to break anything as my warranty is now out.
Axle wrap/wheel hop is when you try and take off on a slippery surface (or hard on drive pavement) and the rear of the truck starts shaking up and down.
mmm....unless I am mistaken, they are actually two seperate problems, can be related as you CAN get wheel hop from axle wrap but that is not always the truth.....if I remember correctly....
Has none here suffered from severe axle wrap while racing before?
Wheel hop is a reaction of axle wrap. Axle wrap is when the axle bends the spring into an S like shape, and wheel hop is the shaking rear end of the vehicle from the bending spring. And of coarse racers have a problem with it, they all have traction bars or ladder bars if it's a leaf sprung car.
