that two of the non believers flip-flopped.

I believe it was Canada and Germany have now agreed to give debt relief to the Iraqis. How generous of them.

I stand to be corrected on the countries.

Re: Peter Jenings Reported

In a post that is sadly typical, you have insulted our friends to the north. Let me pass on a few facts I read just today:
We share the largest undefended border in the world; On 9-11, Canada opened its airspace to hundreds of flights bound for the U.S. and Canadian families sheltered thousands of stranded passengers: Canada (with a population smaller than the state of California) sent thousands of troops to Afghanistan and has already donated over $225 million to the Iraq rebuilding effort; Canada entered WW1 in 1914 ( we entered in 1917); Canada defended freedom against Hitler in 1939 (We joined in 1941).

Canada has proven itself a good neighbor and ally countless times, but they are not vassals of the U.S. deserving of scorn for making independent decisions. Let us treat our proven friends with the respect they deserve, we don't have that many left.

i agree with dono on this. Canada is a sovereign nation that is probably one of our best allies but can make thier own international policies. I have personally worked with Canadian soldiers and can say that I would "go to war" with them anytime!! But again they are an entirely different country and have the right to do as they please.

You dismiss my statement as " Sadly typical" only because you disagree with my opinion.
I agree Canada has been a good neighbor. They have done all the things you mentioned and do deserve credit for there help.

Not to take away any credit where credit is due, but what other choice due they have? I'm not trying to throw punches or start a battle. I'm just saying they rely on us quit a bit. To move against the USA would be biting the hand that feeds them.

Don't get me wrong the Canadians could exist without the USA. But If we were wiped off the map today by a giant tidalwave there ecomomy would crash and there military would be to small to defend the continent.

I heard or read somwhere the other day that the Canadian Military was all most bankrupt. I only got half the story. Does anyone know anymore about this?

I did not dismiss your statement at all, I responded to it. I did not call it "sadly typical" because we disagree, but because it was, eeer.... sadly typical. I will let our friends from the north respond to "hand that feeds them" and their crash following the tital wave - should be interesting.

No, he's right, the USA is the center of the universe.

I'm content to leave it at that.

Bought any meat lately? Lumber? Remember the prices?

Canada has held to their principles while our administration attempted to hold their feet to economic fire for their lack of support or participation with the Iraq mess. You and me, US consumers, are paying the price for that bit of diplomatic brilliance.

I have no idea what it cost Colin Powers to get Canada to concede some debt relief for Iraq, but I'll bet it again costs you and me a pretty penny. Canadians are as tightfisted with a buck as any nation on the face of the earth. And if you honestly think they aren't tough enough to survive well if the US disappeared, you haven't met many Canadians.

And Canada isn't paying for THEIR "brilliance?"

Their quasi-socialist government is a joke. If that thing is based on "principles," then they can feel free to keep them.

By the way... have you considered moving up to that utopia?

Just wondering. I mean, according to you, they do everything right... and we do everything wrong. Frankly, I don't know how you can stand living here when paradise on earth is just north of the border.

Nope... Canada would go bankrupt. For the first time they'd have to pay for their own defense, instead of depending on the US to do it for them.... and frankly, they can't afford it.

Fire mission, niner fiver bravo x-ray lima.

Wise choice.

Knowing one's overall position in the scheme of things is a healthy attitude.

A couple things.....insulting the government and the country of alot of our friends on here is a good way to get a lot of people mad at you. Its also a good way to keep my attention as the rude remarks toward others aren't looked kindly upon....

saying that, if i had to move anywhere outside the us...canada would be my second choice right after the bahamas.....ok...maybe it would come before the bahamas...
