Could the transmission be bad, is it making a lot of noise and "no go"? Just a thought. Yeah unhook the advance hose from the left timed port of the carb and be sure and plug it, when you set the initial timing. Reason I mention checking the vacuum at idle on the timed port is my 1406 ran a bit off, the timing was right, but there was always something just not right, I checked and sure enough there was vacuum at idle on the left timed port, which is a no no, so I backed the air screw out and started over. Shortly thereafter it ran great, Just a suggestion, good luck with your truck
as a side note, the idle screws in the front of the carb are set 1 1/2 turns out from the factory if you get to messing with them and lose your starting point, or just wanna double check everything. later

If the clutches are slipping, it could very well be the reason for the poor power experience. I would install the headers and intake that your getting, then start over and set the timing and carb, when you confident everything has been set right, then if you have no power I would look to the trans, but not until you have ruled out the engine. Just a thought, later
Stick the headers, MSD ign, and your new intake on....(the intakes make a difference).....
once you have all installed, adjust your initial timing to spec....and take the thing in for some carb tuning.......this is where drivability can really excell or suffer.......so have someone experienced go at it.
Your transmission could also be causing power transfer problems....along with the need for a torque converter to match the cam.
your bottom end sounds like it is ok and the cam size is a good one for off idle
takeoff...
it should pull you into the seat pretty well.
Do find out the compression ratio.....and we can go on from there.
Do install the new intake.....do install the MSD ifn and the headers....once this is done, then tuning can be started.
