Factory Electrical Connectors

My 86 BII has the O2 sensor wiring with a burn by exhaust pipe connector. It's melted through to the wiring inside. This is causing a fault code. I know that messing with the wiring at all will cause resistance values to change causing the fault code to remain. I thought about putting in new wiring and bypassing the connector. What do you think?

my father-in-law had a similar problem on his s-10 pickup.the wire to his o2 sensor was broken into 2 pieces. the local muffler shop as long as there was a good connection there would be no problems. so when he found the wire he just put a butt connector on the two wires and the problem was fixed. hope that i helped.

Your fine rewiring it, the O2 varies the voltage to the ECU so a minor resistance change won't matter.
