Hello guys. I'm writing as I'm doing some major mod to my 88 Bronco. To start with, I'm going to tell u guys what i've done so far: K&N filter, BBK throttle body and spacer, Edlebrock Intake manifold, Superchip chip, custom dual exhaust, flowmaster short headers, power pulleys, bigger alternator and water pump, and permacool oil/trans. cooler.
Things going well so far, i can feel the torque increase and Hp has increased 32hp before the intake manifold was added. Things to come are a new 302 engine (rated at 340hp), maybe 17" wheels, dual battery and a electric fan. One thing I don't completely understand is what a limited slip differential and a torque converter are; I was planning on getting them too if that would benefit my ride and performance. Also gettinga lighter flywheel.
Other little things that I've done too is change all the bushings and planning on getting edlebrock IAS shocks too.
So if anyone can or has any idea on what to get next, and also if someone could explain the LSD and torque converter i'd really be thankfull.
LSD is installed in the rear/front differential. It is a clutch and/or gear driven unit that transfers torque between the drive axles based on traction and torque. AKA "Posi".
Basically when your drive tire spins, the clutch pack "locks up" and transfers some power to the non-spinning tire. Your axle may have come with Ford's version, the Trac-Loc. You'll have to post your axle code so someone can tell you if it's open differential or Trac-Loc.
The torque converter is between the engine and transmission(auto transmission only) and it transmits engine torque to the transmission. There are "lock-up" styles that increase performance by limiting the normal slip giving you 1:1 power.
no MAF has been done. And yes my tranny is auto. Thanks for the explaining the LSD and Torque converter. Guess i've to look under it to see the codes...
