My 93 bronco has a idle problem. I already changed the o2 sensor and that did not fix it. It has a new fuel pump, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. It is hard to start, you have to push the pedal all the way to the floor to get it started and after you do it idles erratically. Once it is warmed up it seems to run okay. Does anyone have any ideas?
That is the same thing that I am going through. I changed all that stuff and then the FPR and the fuel filter. After all that it turns out that my cats are plugged. I was gonna replace them with the stock stuff but it is over a grand to do so. My Bronco has been at the shop for two months now. We don't have a exhaust shop here. My mechanic can't seem to find the Bassani stuff for me either. That is what I want, he just can't find it. If I order it myself, it is going to cost $250.00 for shipping...OUCH! Our problems do sound identical though. Do you have to keep on the gas until it is warmed up to keep it from stalling? Worse Mileage? Does it almost seem like the timing is off?
When you push the pedal to the floor, Ford has a neat little "gizmo": The more you push the pedal, the less gas it will squirt into the cylinder, until the engine starts and then it flips, more it is pushed, of course the more gas it will give it.
My idle is low and it does not miss. It does run rich. You can really smell it. I do not think my cat is plugged. I am going to try to read the codes again and see what comes up. Thanks for the help.
I would measure the injectors. When I measured mine they where all around 15.2 to 15.6 ohms. I would als look at the pressure regulator. it may be bad. Pull the vacuum line from the regulator and if there is signs of fuel its bad.
Those are a couple of simple things to check. I myself Ihave been chasing an idle searching problem. Which mostly happens when the truck is cold but it will happen after driving for a while. The truck will even stall once in a while and only when I am sitting still in gear will it stall. When the truck is in park it will idle all day long.
So I hope yours is easier to fix than mine. I have replaced every sensor on my truck with no luck.
