When my truck wouldn't start after a twenty eight degree night I plugged it in and waited a couple of hours. Still no go! Three days later after a new g/p relay, new CPS still plugged in, it wouldn't fire. Had it towed to the business that works on PSD'S, that I trust. My friend that checks my truck out before I go out of town called me at work and told me that my PCM was bad and that it had shorted out. Crap! It was due for the injectors to be re o ringed and I was going to have new g/ps put in anyway,so I told him to go ahead and get it running. A day later he called and told me that all the injectors were bad and needed to be replaced. He advised that the solenoids were shot on two and all were way out of specs. Cha-Ching $ All the wiring harnesses were fine and none of the old style clips were broke off but I asked about the new style harnesses and it was recommended to replace them while the valve covers were off. Emtabmm, your idea. Long story short, got it back and everything is running. The EBPV even works now. Never has before in the cold. What concerns me is that I never could get a reason why the PCM shorted out. They couldn't tell me at the shop because they flat out said, we dont' know either. Ideas?
Emtabmm I guess it was time to get them worked on. I got the codes that came up when scanned before the repairs were done. P-1663; P-1667; and P-0603. I'm giving ol' Gray a bath tomorrow and cruise home with the stereo going. Time to enjoy my big truck!
Sounds pretty close to what happened to mine. Truck died. They replaced glow plug relay and cps. Still didn't work. Local techs had no idea. Ford hotline had no idea. They flew in techs from dearborn. They said the PCM was bad and they replaced it. Truck works great. Asked why the PCM went out. They didn't know. They said the main cause is chips and tuners, but I have never had one on my truck. Luckily all that happened with 30,000m as Ford was charged $2600 for all the work.
