hey guys i have an 81 ford pickup and the fenders r a little rust iv found fenders and me and a buddy r goin to fix them ..but i heard somthing about gluing the fenders in place rather than welding if u have any info for me or any hits that would be great thanx guys
I don't know about glueing fenders onto your 81, the epoxy glue was more designed for whole panels like door skins, certain part of qtr panels. If you are replacing the fenders then they just unbolt, there is no welding. Now if you are going to make your own patch panels, its better to weld, in my opinion anyway. If you glue a patch panel on, you will have a seam, that needs to be filled (usually done by welding). I am sure there are some metal fillers out there, but don't use bondo, as when the panel flexes and it will, the bondo is going to crack, plus that isnt its inteded purpose. Sorry.
its not my own patch and its not a whole fender its like a half fender made to just replace the wheel well.. if that helps but otherwise thanx for the help
I usually weld my patches in. The urethane stuff is good. we used to put whole box sides on with it but the panel still had to spot welded in front of the box and back by the taillight. I guess it was something to do with it having strength in one direction but not in another direction or something like that. The nice thing about the urethane though less chance of rust cause your not grinding metal to weld.
make sure the one giving the massage is a hot chick and go for the warm ginger scrub. Ohh sorry thats the wrong bodywork. Just ask your questions and you'll get an answer.
hahah im likein the sence of humor but i have some more questions sorry guys first timer ...k so the patch i spot weld right ? ...but if u only do spot welds then there will be a seam right .. so what do i fill that wiht cuz above i was told bondo will crack soo and hits on this
I weld the seam solid, but make sure you skip weld and don't get too hot or it will warp bad. take your time welding it up. Grind down the weld seam. Then if where the weld is hight tap it in a little. then use a little fiberglass filler or all-metal. Then do the final finishing with a skim of bondo. Dont use bondo first cause if there are any spots at all in the weld water will get behind it and the bondo will soak it up and give you problems. Get down to 80 grit. you can sand first with 36 grit to straighten, but smooth out the scratches with 80 grit. Prime a couple coats with epoxy primer to protect the metal then go over that with a filler primer. Spray on a light mist coat of spray can flat black and block with 180 grit. You'll be able to see any little low spots if the black stays in them and won't work out by blocking it. If they are small they will fill in with more coats of filler primer. keep priming and blocking with 180 till everything feels staight when you run your hand over it. When everything feels straight, prime and final sand with 400 grit wet before paint. If it's a small repair should be able to get it all straight after blocking once, repriming and blocking with 400 grit. Make sure you find a massausse named ginger.

hey guys because uv been such a huge help wiht the bodywork so far i htought maybe u could help me out wiht this DASHBOARD AND DOOR SKINS if u have any websites or info for me that would be great thanx again
for door skins, i think browns of two rivers has them, they have after market parts. Never bought anything from them but prices don't seem bad on there stuff when I looked. I think some shops around here buy parts from them. http://www.browns-of-tworivers.com/575.htm
Ohh one more thing, don't ever order from auto body parts online, I think thats what the name was. They have a warehouse somewhere in California. I went to order a fan shroud from them and started hearing something from people posting about them. Checked the better business bureau site, and read they had a bunch of complaints about jacking the shipping way up. I called after I ordered and asked them how much shipping would be and they refused to tell me. I said well cancel my order and refund my check. Had to call like 10 times and threaten action against them to get them to send check back, took really long to get then it was short a few bucks, but I was happy to get that so I didn't persue any farther.
