I was wondering how many of you guys out there have put aftermarket exhaust systems on your 4.9L Straight 6s. Does it sound pretty good? Does it increase perfomance a lot? I was looking around and I found a Gibson dual exhaust and i was wondering if it would be a good buy?
I had a gibson dual sport on my 95 300...sounded great...gotta be careful cuz a few of the systems out there make it sound like a tractor engine. The system i had was loud under acceleration but barely audible at cruisin speeds.
the gibson exhaust is a great exhaust to have... i put it on my 92 f-150, and it purrs like one loud kitten. i'd deff. go with the gibson exhaust.. although i put on a single exhaust rather than the dual that you are talking about putting onto you ford. hope this helps you out a little bit.
well.. i think that the single is cheaper because of less sheet metal used.. and you dont have to buy the Y pipe... also i think that the single is better for the truck because it has more air flow out of the single than the dual.. that is.. more pressure in the single than the dual.. and personally i think it makes it sound better.
I just put a cherry bomb with a pipe that exited just in front of the rear wheel on my 92 with the 300 I6. It only cost me $40. It sounded pretty decent, not as loud as I expected.
trust me on the gibson.. they are the best out there.. i'd even go so far as to say better than flowmaster.. they're loud.. and look great... i looove that exhaust!!
i have a 300 I6, i put 1.5" pipe coming out of the manifolds going str8 back and exiting out of 5" chrome tips, sounds deep (real deep) til bout 2K RPM then it gets gradually higher pitched, i love the way it sounds. No cats no mufflers, definatly the loudest system i have ever heard.
For those of you that have headers on your I6, have you had many maintnance problems with them. I have been told that they are lot of work and even just installing them is a major hassle.
Have any of you heard a Dynomax system on a I6? Is it any better or worse than Gibson? Which sounds better? Which one gains more performance?
I think i'm gonna get the gibson exhaust (once i can afford it). From what you guys say it sounds like a really good exhaust system. I trust what all you guys said about the gibson sounding good, but has anybody put the gibson single outlet exhaust on their truck and it ended up sounding like a ricer? If so please warn me bacuse it would drive me up the wall if my truck sounded like that! Thanks everone.
