Gang...
I am going to install the firm shift valve from the store here.
I have da Super Chip and Gibson Duals and I have noticed the tranny sluggishness.
What is the best way to replace the most fluid?
For the home mechanic of course.
Do I drain the converter or does it even have a drain?
I will be replacing the filter as well.

Hang on just a second. Is this your first tranny fluid change? At 120,000 miles? Am I the only one who heard that old story if you don't change the tranny fluid within the first 60,000 miles, you should NEVER change it? From what I understand, the risk of tranny failure increases dramatically when you change the fluid at a LONG interval. If you don't change it often (best way), you're better off leaving it alone! Someone confirm/deny this please... Forty?
I've never heard that ! Haroutd.
seems to me I'd want to get all the crud and particles out of there !
and if the filter is becoming clogged could cause a severe problem !
But on a lighter Note I wouldn't own an AUTO!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, I've heard that, and there is the tiniest bit of truth to it.
Many people never change their transmission fluid. When it gets up there in mileage and starts having a problem, the first try is to change the fluid. Soon after the transmission dies.
Remember when I said it started to have a problem? The transmission was almost dead by the time they changed the fluid. The new fluid at worst didn't hurt it, but at best may have only gained a few miles before the dying transmission was finished.
If you are having problems and it's the original fluid it is probably a waste of new fluid to change it. Just pull the transmission out and rebuild or replace.
If it has a lot of miles and is running fine on the originial fluid, CHANGE IT ASAP, and it might live a lot longer.
This is my opinion. You may believe it or not, and it certainly is worth the money you paid me for it!

When Mark & Forty speak, I have learned to shut up & listen. I wasn't sure if what I said was accurate, which is why I was hoping guys like you could "fill me in". What I heard was that once your transmission reaches a high mileage point (i.e. 100,000 miles), the viscosity of the fluid & its inherent properties are affected by the particles suspended within. Contrary to what I thought (change it) I was told that the transmission would be mal-effected by such a drastic change in operating environment by introducing fresh/clean ATF. Apparently I heard wrong. At least I can now say I learned something new today!
