big problem
my 78 f-150 has a problem. when i'm in gear black smoke comes out of the exaust. when it is in nuetral and i rev it up it clears out the black smoke. but when i put it in gear again and start driving it tyurns black again. what is wrong.
another problem is that i only get about 3 miles to the gallon. i dont know what is wrong, please help me

Could be the powervalve, choke not opening, float level too high or a piece of debris stuck in the needle and seat. Anyway, your carb is dumping too much fuel down into the engine. Most likely from one of the items listed above.
