clutch pivot alignment

clutch pivot alignment
pulled a c4 tranny off my 302 1968 stepside,that the previous owner had put in. I'm putting 3 speed 3 on the tree back in.
The clutch pivot ball on the bellhousing is a little forward of the
frame clutch pivot, which is in the correct position. May have
picked up wrong bell pivot at junkyard. 302 is as far back as it can get. Does the orignal 302 pivot screw into the rear part of
the engine block. I hope not. 302 is 71 model.
