Cam Position sensor

Can Any one help? i have a 1995 ford ranger with a 4 cylinder. i have pulled a cam position sensor code from the obd system. i had the sensor replaced. all was well for about 1 day. the next day when i started the motor. the check engine light came on again. i pulled the code out and it was the cam position code again. i disconnected the battery and the code was erased. i drove the truck for a day with no light. the next day again the check engine light came on again. how can i fix this problem?
thanks for your help

Hi, welcome to FTE!

I don't know much about 4-bangers, but I'll give it a shot ...I think on your year Ranger the CMP sensor is triggered by a high point in the oil pump sprocket (as opposed to the CMP sensor having its own "driveshaft").

If this is the case, then could it be that the sprocket is worn and not activating the sensor properly?

Thanks For the info but that not the problem. the high point on the sprocket never touches any thing. the sensor is activated by a magnet inside the sensor so i know that it can't be worn down. still looking for a soloution. thanks for your response anyway.

What exactly does the cam position sensor do? I do not have a clue.

The camshaft position (CMP) sensor detects the position of the camshaft. The CMP sensor identifies when piston No. 1 is on its compression stroke. A signal is then sent to the powertrain control module (PCM) and used for synchronizing the firing of sequential fuel injectors.

Also, could be a voltage reference wire shorten out. need to check wiring schematic and determine if any other sensor uses the same voltage reference and determine if you might have another sensor. it's a possiblity. it happen with me at work in a navistar dt466e and traced it out.
