Hello, I am a first time poster, long time reader lol.
Let me quickly tell you about what I have. 1987 Bronco II 2.9L aod 4x4 full load auto everything. This vehicle has 106000 Km (60 some Miles). I bought it from a shop where it had been parked for 5 years with a supposed siezed engine ( the starter was siezed). Once I put in fresh fuel, Oil change and new coolant and t-stat it ran fine with the common lifter noise associated with the 2.9. Temp gauge goes about 1/2 way up and after about 20 mins of city driving, I begin to lose power and won't go over 2500 rpm. Before I go throw a bunch of parts into it ( I am thinking the module on the dist first) I was wondering if anyone may have a different direction I should head. I was also told by a Ford mechanic, they are bad for icing up (the temp here is around 30 F)Any help is appreciated
I would start by testing the fuel pressure and pulling the codes, see the tech info post for the procedure. The TFI module normally cause a no start/ dies while driving problem, hot engine.
Thanks for the quick reply, I should have thought of that. I didn't even think to change the fuel filters. I had an 86 F-150 that had been sitting a few years ( one of these days I should buy a new vehicle lol ) and the fuel filters were plugged with the residue from fuel evaporating. Kinda looked like butter, this tank is probably full of it too. Thanks a lot, I will start with the fuel and work my way out.
