back pressure

does an engine need back pressure? i noticed when i took off the muffler on the driver side, it didnt run as good as when the mufflers was on there. i didnt want to admit it to my dad though.
and will it run good with just some 15" glasspacks on each side?

Well.... Just think of your engine as an air pump? the more air you can get into it the more air it puts out!! But.. with an engine you have jets in the carb to meter the amount of fuel to gas ratio.. With that said... with out any back pressure the engine will pull in more air than gas...there for running ruff... Now if you just ran hedders {open} you would have to go to bigger jets in the carb to make the fuel and air mixture right for the engine!!
