i have a 2002 f350 4x cc longbed psd with a 8' plow. how much weight should i carry in the bed for driving? i was thinking of putting 2 parkingstop blocks in the bed. they weigh about 90# each. is that good?
I have an 8' Western Ultra-Mount and I carry bags of salt around during snow plowing. After the snow I remove the plow and still keep 5-10 bags (50# each) if nothing else for a better ride!
I'd rather use bagged products (salt, sand, ?) - easier to handle than the concrete parking blocks AND they won't scratch up the bed(liner).
Just my .02. Hope this helps. :-X12

I think Western Snow Plow company recomends something like 425# of ballast after the rear axle. I also dont think it matters if its a 7.5, 8 or 8.5 foot plow. The only reason they suggest this, is to keep the slope of the truck more towards factory with the added weight hanging off the front of the truck. (With no weight in the back, the truck will have a rake to it and you could damage the driveline, mainly u-joints)
YETI, if you read this, how much do you use as ballast?

I would seriously reconsider putting concrete anything in the bed for winter weight. If, by the chance, you ever are involved in an accident, that stuff could come through the cab and people have been known to be decapitated!
In previous years when i needed weight in the bed i used sand bags.
I have a 99 PSD 8' Bed with a Fisher Minutemount 8' plow. Wen I bought the truck there was a sticker right on the visor that said I needed 800 lbs. of weight in the bed to compensate.
Yes, and do not put concrete in the back or anything that will slide. I work for a construction company and used a 1 1/4" thick piece of steel plate 3' x 5'. I thought I had it secure until I went up a hill and the restraints broke and it blew the bottom of the tailgate right off its hinges. It bent the tailgate right out. Now, I use 80 lb. sandbags. When you are done plowing for the season, just empty the sandbags. Plus, they are only $4.50 each.
