I got my new tuner tonight and decided to try it out. Put the 60hp program in, things went fine. Decided to try the 100hp program. Followed the directions and when the program was 90% done loading it stopped and said program not loaded. Then it said unable to identify vehicle make sure key is on. When I try to restore factory settings it said they were not saved. And best of all truck won't start. The programmer won't read even read the codes on another car, unable to identify vehicle error message. Any ideas? Thanks
If you bought it through us ( www.motorhaven.com) I'll be happy to get your a code to reset the Predator. This error will usually happen if there is a power issue, either due to marginal batteries, or running accessories such as the radio while programming. Same thing happens with Superchips under the same conditions.
Unfortunately, I can't provide service for other dealers customers (nor would it be fair to me). I have a direct cell phone number to their main tech guy (we do a LOT of business with Diablo) and can usually get help even when they are closed. Your results may vary with your dealer.
hey ken, relating to the same subject, I bought the predator from you and got it today, I was really impressed with the 100 and 85 settings, but mine did the same thing, fortunately after a few tries, it finally did restore my back up. But now it will not let me install any of the performance tunes, it tries to various %'s complete and then says " did not install tune" and then i have to restore the back up again to get running?? any suggestions? I love the difference it made when working, and would like to be running on another tune soon.. THanks and hey I know you are busy so no hurry, my truck is running.... Thanks again.
Most of the time programming stall issues are due to bad contact on the connector, weak batteries, or accessories being turned on while programming (ie, radio, headlights, interior lights, etc.). If all else fails, you can call Diablo and they will walk you through a procedure to obtain a reset code (very easy).
hey thanks ken, I went back out there and restored the factory code and then tried again and it worked just fine. I do wonder however if the problems had anything to do with the codes that were stored from the previous performance tunes??? I cleared them before i started doing anything, then restored factory code and then installed the performance tunes without any problem... it worked for me, maybe it will work for the problem listed at the top of the thread.. Anyway, thanks, i'm rolling again at 100hp
Yes, that's it. I recommend always going back to stock between switching tunes. It programs at a slower rate when doing that and it could be a protocol error with programming at a faster rate moving from tune to tune. I can verify this with Patrick at Diablo if you want...
if you find time it would be nice to know, however i'm not real concerned about it anymore now that i know how to make it work, unless of course it happens again <That would Suck>, like i said though if you have time let us know!!
Thanks Ken I will say that i have never been more impressed with anyone's customer service than yours. Not just in my time of need but with all the other questions and concerns you've dealt with all over the FTE site. I think you are a real stand up guy. Keep it up and I'll buy all my stuff from you and make sure everyone i know does too!!
Thank you, you just made my day! It gets busy here around the holidays (wahhooo another new employee starts Monday!) and I really appreciate the kind words.
I have purchased a 2001 F-350 7.3L. I am toying with the idea of performance enhancement but reading posts like these and all these problems leaves me more than a little nervous and hesitant.
Since any increased horsepower output comes at a price what type of extra attention will these engines require and wear these engines will see down the road?
In other words what addition maintenance would I have to do to a boosted engine? Is there a significant or mesurable reduction in engine/drivetrain life?
Thanks,
Reg

The only issue is increased exhaust gas temperatures. If you keep them below 1250 continuous there are no longevity issues. Consider that we are shipping between 25-50 chips/tuners per week and you'll see that "all these problems" are a small minority and an anomoly. We've shipped literally thousands of them this year.... if they were problem prone you'd see hundreds and hundreds of problem reports here --- instead you see a small handful.
I recommend an EGT gauge with the purchase of a chip/tuner so you can monitor the exhaust temps. I recommend them even for a stock truck. Not only will it help increase longevity, it will also help increase fuel mileage if you drive by it.
